The Pinoy Scare!

31 10 2008

Do you still remember what your Grandmother always tells you when you were young.

“Don’t ever go wandering off alone in the woods, the duwendes might take you to their kingdom and you won’t be able to go back” that’s what my Titas and Lola always say whenever I’m in our province. To be honest, I really wanna know what the world of the duwendes are…

In contemporary, children are very familiar with foreign monsters like Dracula, Frakenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Mummies, the bogeyman and oh, Michael Jackson!!! Hahaha.. :-) Trick or Treats are very common nowadays especially in subdivisions in Manila, but come to think of it… Do these kids know our very own Filipino Folklore and Monsters ? During a halloween party, I asked a boy who was in a dracula costume what a Tikbalang is; he answered that its a small lizard.  *sob

So I thought of making this posts on our very own Filipino Monsters. Here are some of the most famous:

Business Talk!

31 10 2008

I have been reading about marketing for the past couple of days as I am trying to find ways on how to apply N.L.P. (Neuro Linguistic Programming in it) or perhaps plain Psychology into it. I was requested to create a module on N.L.P. by people from a certain company of which I will keep confidential. In relation to this, I framed in my mind that I am a marketing agent and some how had a problem with a particular client.

Here’s the problem I imagined in my mind:

“A client is upset with one of my subordinate’s performance due to some glitches in the process. The client received an order which is incorrect. You then told her that wou will check what has gone wrong and get back to her by 5 p.m. with a solution. She became angry and said, she need the correct items immeddiately and need a solution right away. You have to consider the fact that it requires a bit of time to solve the problem…what should you do?”

My Solution:

Since the client is already upset you should consider what you will say first. Focus on the fact, that you need to calm her emotional Read the rest of this entry »

Job Fair in Gensan

28 10 2008

Last week while strolling around KCC Mall to check out the exhibits for the E-business week, I happen to stumble upon a huge job fair. Hmmm, I thought there would be an opening for a graphic designer or for a company nurse or some sort (I can’t have a job in the hospital as a nurse coz of my Masters) but it was for people who want to work outside of the country. I saw different faces, some were happy, some are beginning to be pissed off because of the very long line or perhaps because of people who are cutting into the line. Yeah, I even saw a group of males and females arguing about cutting in.

Anyway, I was glad that there was a job fair for people in Gensan it’s a sign that Generals are really productive individuals. The event was spearheaded by JIB e-Academy and Solutions in cooperation with DOLE.

Here are some pictures of the event:  Click to enlarge

I just got the idea for this blog since its almost halloween.

Each and everyone of us has their own fear or phobia, though some may not have any at all.  A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder. It is a strong, irrational fear of something that poses little or no actual danger. There are many specific phobias.

Examples of Phobia Are:

Ablutophobia- Fear of washing or bathing.
Acarophobia- Fear of itching or of the insects that cause itching.
Acerophobia- Fear of sourness.
Achluophobia- Fear of darkness.
Acousticophobia- Fear of noise.

To teach is to learn TWICE!

23 10 2008

I just finished checking the examinations of my dear students in one subject but partly done on the other.  Yes, I am also a teacher aside from being a nurse and a mentalist/magician. Their examination for one subject was over 230 points and on the other 160 points. Some of my colleagues on the nursing field said that my examination is for nursing students and not for nursing aid students. Well, I wanna train nursing aid students who can think like a nurse. I want to give my students the edge from other nursing aid students from other schools. Though I only teach conceptual nursing and not in the clinical side, I can well say that my students are going through hell with me as their teacher but Read the rest of this entry »

Magic Cube Mania!

23 10 2008

There are 42,000,000,000,000,000,000 different configurations for a rubik’s cube.

Before I thought there are only a few people who can solve the magic cube specifically those who are good in math and problem solving. I have to say I tried solving it before but after thirty agonizing minutes I was pissed off and gave up on it. It gave me a migraine and I was tempted to remove the stickers on the magic cube and put it back to its original order which I did (hahaha).

While I was walking around town, an analogy of the magic cube entered my mind. Perhaps the reason why math geeks are good at solving the cube it’s because they Read the rest of this entry »

How to take care of your Laptop!

18 10 2008

It is very important to ensure that your laptop is well taken care of. Small and portable as it is, it is very prone to serious problems that might transpire. Always keep in mind that Prevention is Better than cure. I just got my laptop reformatted this afternoon by my brother because of a viral problem I got from a USB.

Here’s a point of advice, most people are very cautious of putting USB’s in their computer because of the fear of getting infected with a virus or a spyware. I know a lot of us encountered this annoying gesture, they’ll scan your USB for viruses and the more files you have on it, the longer it takes. The problem there is, they confirmed that there is no virus in your USB but are you sure that your USB wouldn’t be infected by the virus from their computer?  The next thing you know your PC or your top got infected too… Think about it!

TIPS IN TAKING CARE OF YOUR LAPTOP

1. Don’t drink near your laptop. This is very common in Coffee Shops, its okay to drink while your doing something with your top but please make sure that your not taking a sip in front of it. The moment a small amount of liquid enters the unit, it short circuits and corrupts your data. Keep your drinks away from the unit and when you take a sip, do it away from the laptop.

2. Don’t eat near your laptop. Small Crumbs of food can attract insects especially ants and when they get into your laptop the circuit fries them causing Read the rest of this entry »

I miss Chucky!

17 10 2008

There is only one monster/villain I am really scared of. It is not 6 feet tall, nor has a freaky mask, nor has a powerful magic or some sort. It is just a mere 3 and half feet doll. I can still remember the time during my childhood years that my mom is fond of renting child play movies. Whenever we watch it everytime I see chucky I get the chills even until now. What ever happened to him I wonder? The last part is very “bitin”. Whenever Chucky kills someone, as I could recall I cried a lot. I was fuckin scared whenever I hear that laughter of his. I miss him though. I miss that murderous intent and that lurking around that he does especially when I feel that somehow he’s just right behind me!

Control your Dreams!

17 10 2008

Is Dream Control Possible?

Can we decide what dream to have during sleep?

Can we be aware that we are just having a dream?

YES!

For the past few months I’ve been practicing the art of N.L.P. and has done myriad of experimentation on it like making a person color blind, apathetic, drunk and forgetful. The idea never came to me until the same feeling happened again. This feeling is when while I was sleeping I was able to picture in my mind what was happening in the news on T.V. It felt like I was in the scene when I woke up I was surprised that the person who was in my dream was talking on T.V.

I related it to my N.L.P. and I could well say that it has a big possibility. When we are asleep or perhaps half asleep our subconscious mind is very open and our conscious mind is temporarily shut down. With regards to N.L.P. and conversational hypnotism it requires the subconscious mind to be open for the effect to work. Thinking about it…. Hmm… Yeah, we could really tell our mind what to dream! Sleight of Hand vs Self Working Magic Tricks

1 10 2008

One of the debates you may come upon in the magic world concerns “self-working” magic tricks and whether or not these tricks are just as good as those requiring difficult sleights and moves, or if they are rather a cop-out to “real” magic.

To explore this, let’s first define what is meant by “self-working.”

Obviously, no trick works itself; it has to be performed and the performer usually has to do something – even if it’s pushing a hidden button – to achieve the effect. Self-working tricks are a mainstay of magic shops, especially those that cater to beginners. A seven- year-old just starting out in magic might be a little intimidated at the thought of performing a coin vanish, but will jump at the chance to use the simplest iterations of “egg-in-vase” or a change bag. As for whether or not the use of these tricks denotes a lack of skill, the answer is that it depends. Read the rest of this entry »
