Child almost died wanting to be a MAGICIAN

2 07 2009

The first ever magic show that I’ve seen was when I was 8 years old in a neighbor’s birthday party. Even until now I could still remember what the clowns did. First they made a spongeball disappear from one hand and appear on the other. The very first feat of magic has already dumbfounded me. Next they made a burnt out piece of paper into money then make a very long coil of paper appear from his mouth while being pulled by the birthday celebrant. Their finale’ is the blade swallowing act which is very common among clowns. I was totally amazed by the feats they were doing and I myself wanted to be a clown one day.

The next day, somehow by sheer excitement of reaching that “dream” I tried to mimic what the clowns were doing. I invited my younger brother and sister into my room and told them I will be doing a magic show. We turned off the light and had my brother hold a flashlight as if it was a spotlight. They both clapped as the music started from the walkman. Instead of the paper coil, I made the yarn appear from mouth. That’s the only thing I did and my younger brother and sister were clapping because of that.

After a few days, wanting to make a mimic kind of magic to show my brother and sister I tried to figure out how the clown managed to hide the razorblade in his mouth and made it appear tied on the piece of thread. I managed to see a razorblade around the house and slowly put it in. I wasn’t scared, I was determined! The razorblade was already on my tongue, as I was trying to hide it in my cheeks, OUCH!!!

I accidentally cut my cheeks from the inside. I immediately removed the razorblade from my mouth and gargled some water. I was 8 years old back then, and every kid wants to be a magician someday! Ask your son this question: “Son, do you want to be a magician someday?” For sure you’ll get a yes especially those who have seen a magician before.

A similar accident happened just recently in Taiwan about a boy who almost died imitating a magician.

Here’s what the report said:
“A 13-year-old boy trying to imitate Taiwanese magician Liu Qian during a television program, nearly died after he swallowed a coin. The boy was watching the program at home in Shantou, a coastal city in eastern part of Guangdong province, on Thursday. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors had to operate to remove the coin.
His father said the child is a big fan of Liu.

What I’m trying to point out here is that, if you are a magician and you are performing for a children’s party or the sorts where a majority of your audience are little kids. DON’T PERFORM THOSE DANGEROUS STUNTS!

Because even if you’ll tell those innocent little kids not to do them at home, they will still try to be like you at home! Or whenever you’ll be doing those kinds of stunts for a casual event or adult parties its safe to make sure that there are no children around to see you do that.

To parents out there, before you hire a clown or a magician for your kid’s party make sure he doesn’t do those dangerous stunts!

(To be safer, hire 12th Summit Magic Entertainment) hehehe.
